I have at least 100 sequences that were done on the old Ensoniq SD-1. Most were quite good (if I say so myself, lol). Here is my problem. I purchased the Giebler Sotware utilities for converting the non-gmf sequences to midi. Purchased it in November, 04. I really haven't used it, but have decided to get busy with it. I've tried contacting Gary Giebler for the last 4 days with no success - I'm hoping he's on vacation or something and not just ignoring me. Here are the 2 main issues:
1. Giebler Utilities are formatted for an Epson printer (it's a DOS based program). His instructions say to contact him for printer formatting if the printer doesn't work. My printer does nothing when I attempt to print anything from the utilities program.
2. All of my sequences contain the same Ensoniq drum track (it was called "Kitchen Sink"). I always put my drum track on track 1 in all sequences. Although I can convert the sequences, the midi conversion requires revoicing, and the drum track has me stumped. For one thing, I'd have to move it to track 10 on the KN7000, don't know how to do that. Secondly, I'm assuming that I'd have to remap it, which is something I've never done. Sort of stuck - any help would be appreciated.

If you can't work out how to do the conversion in the KN, my next suggestion would be to introduce the converted midifile into a software sequencer, and change the drum track channel and drum mapping if necessary.

If you don't have a computer sequencer, here are links to two freewares. Either should be able to help:
http://jazzplusplus.sourceforge.net/download/ http://www.speedyfinder.com/audio/808/ ( Quartz AudioMaster )

Even though XP isn't listed, Quartz worked fine on my XP computer when I tested it.

Sometimes I wonder if this is all worth it, lol. I've attempted 2 different downloads of the Quartz program. Downloaded it the first time, and even registered at the site. Attempted to run the program, message popped up saying that a required file (WMDVI.DLL) wasn't found. Deleted everything, redownloaded - same message. The other program is Linux based and I don't think I'd be able to use it.

I'm not sure about the Quartz audio thing. I just d/l'd it a few months ago so I could compare notes with another member here and it seemed to work ok, but I don't think I have it on disk or either computer any more.

Jazz + isn't only for Linux. The version I've used is Windows based. I kept the setup files on disk, because I still hack around with it every so often. It's basic but it will allow you to change midi track channels. Not sure about drum mappings, never tried it.

If you'd like, send me an email and I will send you the Windows version of Jazz+, or try again on this page: http://www.jazzware.com/zope

Here two others that might work. Costs nothing to try anyway:
http://www.anvilstudio.com/
http://www.frieve.com/english/

If none of these can help you with the drums, most of the commercial ones will, and there are entry level apps like Cakewalk Music Creator or Power Tracks that can be had for 30 - 40 USd or so.

Regards,

AJ

Thanks again.....I did a search on the missing file and found that there are number of ppl who downloaded that program and came up with the same missing .dll file. I was lucky enough to stumble across a BBS where someone had thoughtfully posted a link to the downloadable version of the missing file. I downloaded it and now the Quartz program seems to work fine.
Haven't had a chance to try it yet (playing out tonite, had to go set-up) but I'll give it a shot tomorrow morning.
