Hi people... I have a friend with an M1. His battery died and he's lost his internal sounds. He's managed to download the factory internal sounds & settings from on-line into his computer. How would he now get them from his computer into his M1? ...Anyone...??

Any assitance would be much appreciated. ....Thanx...

It depends on the file format of the factory data (.mid, .syx) and what kind of computer (Mac/PC). I'm assuming the computer has a MIDI interface. This page has links to several SysEx loaders and other software for both Mac and PC platforms: http://www.patchmanmusic.com/SysexUtilities.html

I hope that helps.

You can find lots of M1 resources on http://www.synthzone.com/korg.htm and you can download a sysex tool from http://www.alesis.com/downloads/software/freeloader/ . You can also find sysex files at http://synthzone.com/midi/korg/m1/ I always try to archive files for most synths.

Note though that almost all MIDI sequencers already support transmitting and receiving sysex data.

How did your friend end up going getting his M1 operating again, did he end up checking out patch banks and build up a good internal set?

PS - I was on an Alaskan cruise a couple of weeks back and on the way back to Seattle dropped into Victoria BC for a few hours. I thought of you when we stopped there. Great city shboom. It has a lot of character and would be a good place to gig around I'd guess.

Ask away -- I'm sure one (or more) of us will answer to the best of their ability.
