Hi There,

I am wondering whether which arranger I should buy, Psr 3000 or GEM SK880 power station. In my country, I get an offer to buy Psr3000 around US$1,100 while GEM SK880 Power station w/HD is US$1,200.

I read the manual users of these KBs, but cannot decide because somebody told me that GEM sounds better than Psr3000 (I knew that Psr3000 is just released by the begoinning of this year 2005 while GEM SK880 is by 2000).

Any suggestions, I appreciated?

Thanks, Merry X'mas and Happy new year.

If possible, sit down and play both keyboards, then let your ears decide. If this is not possible, I would go with the PSR-3000. It has a great track record and there is more online assistance for Yamaha keyboards than all others combined.

Good Luck,

Gary

Those two keyboards are two different type of arrangers.
They both have their good and bad points.

Perhaps to biggest difference is the number of keys and the keyfeel.

The PSR 3000 has 61 keys where as the SK880 has 88 keys.

If you are in to playing, the SK880 would probably be a greater plesure to play.

Other than that difference, there are a few more differences but not that big of a difference between them although with the SK880 it has more workstation features than the PSR 3000.

If you can give some information as to how and what music you play and what features are important to you, probably we would be able to help you more with your dicision.

Also consider this as well. The PSR-3000 has 61 (non-weighted keys), and the SK has 88 weighted keys.

Sure the feel for playing the piano/electric piano voices are going to feel and play much nicer on the SK, but take into consideration other voices on the SK.

With weighted keys it's much harder to play other voices that require a quick, and fast key return--such as manual drums for style recordng, and fast solo instruments such as guitar, sax, and a few others.

Regards,
Squeak

One thing to consider, the GEM has a "dated" sounding technology, it came out several years ago, the PSR3000 has the latest tech, Megavoices, Hi resolution styles USER friendlier....SUPPORT....etc.

I really love the new technology but Psr3000 is limited of number of keys and key feeling.

However, I will try to test both KBs to see which one is appropriate for me.

One quetions whether SK880 can be updated with new sounds and styles? how's about its keyboard durable?

Actually, I got a rp8 - GEM (I bought around the year 2000')to practice with my arranger RA-30 of Roland (I bought around 1995'). However, my GEM has a problem with the key E3 and I am seeking a Pro technican to fix it. That why I am wondering if I bought SK880 I will encounter the same situation.

Thanks

The SK880 can be updated with extra sounds and styles.
In fact, the hard drive comes with lots of additional sounds and styles.

You can also creat your own styles on the SK 880 (that is very easy) and you can also load third party samples on to the SK 880.

The user interface is perhaps one of the easyest to use as far as arrangers go.

I have not had the SK 880, but have played for years the SK76 (has the same features as SK 880 but with 76 keys) and have not had any problems with the keys.

The best thing to do is to try the keyboard yourself and see if it fits your needs.
