I'm very impressed with the Ketron SD-5 demos. The sounds are very clean without noise and better than PSR-3000 sounds especially Accordion, saxophone and Guitars and regarding SD-2 module it is specified in the brochure that SD-2 uses the same engine of SD-5 keyboard. Now i'm already having two keyboards KorG PA-50 and PSR-3000 and now i can't efford buying SD-5 keyboard and now i'm thinking to buy SD-2 pocket size MIDI module mainly for having SD-5 sounds.I have some questions please clarify.

1.Is this SD-2 module have same sounds of SD-5 keyboard?
2.What is the price and when this module is available?
3.From where can i can download SD-2 manual?

Please clarify,

Thanks
SUNNY.

Hello Sunny
The SD 2 was at the Blackpool Keyboard Festival, and the UK confirmed price was £279.
The sound engine is the same as SD 5, and most of the same voices are available, however please be aware that apart from the connections and a volume control, there are no other controls on it, so make sure your keyboard has a comprehensive Midi output, that will enable you to control it to the full.
As soon as it is available, I am sure the instruction book will be available on the Ketron (Italy) site.
Hope this helps.

Bill

Hi Bill,
did you happen to get a chance to hear it??

Sunny, there's a bit of info available http://www.ketron.it/news/index.asp?idNews=18

I noticed it mentions 32 part multitimbral, but I didn't notice how much polyphony it has.

best wishes
Rikki

I ordered the SD2 last week to enhance my SMF playback from my laptop. I know it is a leap of faith, but it seems to me that it has to be pretty decent with the SD5 engine.
It is back ordered until this week.

Has anyone gotten one ?

Hi Bernie,
PLEASE let us know how you go with it. I've been trying to find out the polyphony on it. Ketron aren't very forthcoming. I'm hoping it's at least 64 note. Apparently it's 32 part multitimbral.

Personally I'm hoping to use it with OMB.
I've got the crazy notion of converting some of my SD1 styles across to OMB, and I figure the SD2 MAY be similar enough soundwise, too avoid too much tweaking.

Hi Rikki
Your idea sounds logical to me. I am not under any constrictions as like sounds,so, in addition to SMF's, my Axiom 61 should be ample to control it for other purposes as well.

It is coming direct from the factory, and will report back.

Hi Bernie,
how awesome is this. http://www.ketron.it/prodotti/index.asp?idTipo=2
Go to above site & download some of the stuff they have provided for the sd2.
What sounds really intersting are the midifiles with which you create drum loops for the LIVE DRUMS in the sd2 ( hope I've got that right).

Loops for Cha Cha's, blues, swing etc.

Sounds like it may be perfect for my OMB software setup after all.

Hoping to see one on Saturday.

Still let me know if you get yours in the meantime, if not I'll report back after I've seen it.

best wishes
Rikki

p.s make sure you click english icon ( top right) on web page, else the stuff comes up in Italian.

Hey thanks Rikki. I am beginning to see more possibilities than first anticipated. I downloaded the loops to try on the SD2 when I get it.

Hi Bernie,
I actually managed to get some of the loops working with my sd1+ drums. SD1+ & SD2 may well have some drum kits in common ?? Can't wait to do a comparison.
Either way, I should be able to use some of my SD1 drum patterns , plus these sd2 midi drum loops ( patterns), for replacing some of the drum patterns in my OMB styles. My existing soundfont drumsets weren't capablable of reproducing the
Live Drums ( Drums 2)
in sd1 style conversions, so I all but gave up. ( you'll hear what I mean when you get your sd2, drum 2 is not a regular drumset like drum 1 is.)

The idea of the loops is to be able to replace existing drum & percussion tracks in midifiles, (if you choose, with "Live Drums") It should also work with OMB styles.

I'm hoping it turns out to be a good, inexpensive, very portable soundsource for OMB. Especially handy for people who's computers may not be fast & powerful enough to handle softsynths, but still capable of running omb.

best wishes
Rikki
