Recorded a song to keyboard. There is a 1/2 stepup modulation in verse 2. Upon playback, it does not modulate UP. In fact, just before the point where the next chord is played, which is where the modulation SHOULD come in... the key shifts DOWN for a bar or two, then goes back to the original key. Is this not weird? Yes, it shifts DOWN a 1/2 step.

I recorded this twice to check again. Should the keyboard record the modulation and play back the modulation? I think it will start in the key your board is set on but should the 1/2 step up modulation play back correctly in the midi file?

Yes, it should remember exactly what you put in, including modulation.

What may have happened is the sequencer recorded the notes after the modulation in the new key, BUT........ it may have recorded the button push for transposition and is applying that to the already transposed notes. You don't say if you are using an external sequencer or internal. If external, take a look at the List Edit for the midi file and see if there are some unusual CC codes or some Sysex at the point where things go wrong.

I may be off here, but it's worth a look.

Did you record the modulation by using the transpose button on the keyboard? Or did you manually modulate?

Used the button. Like I do often and it works fine live. But when it recorded, this bizarre shift DOWN for a few notes and then back to the original key.

I'm about ready to throw it out the window. I've spent all day on this. Actually, several days. Something is not right! Now, it quit playing harmony on vocals. I tried to resurrect every way I know. I couldn't figure anything out. Turned it off, turned it back on. Now, it works.

I think something is wrong with this keyboard. I know part of my problem is lack of total understanding of the keyboard but it really does do some very strange things.

Does your keyboard have an external power supply? If so, try a new one........ if not, try plugging the keyboard into a UPS (uninterruptible power supply, you know, those things your computer SHOULD be plugged into). At this time of year, so hot!, mains voltage can sag and surge rather more than some keyboards can handle.

Have you tried repeating the recording....... do you get the same weirdness every time, or was it a one-time gremlin?
