...belongs to what arranger or arranger manufacturer?

Other than real guitars or arranger voices, has anyone found another reasonably affordable technology to add good-sounding guitars to the mix while playing arranger? (Yeah, I know, what does "reasonably affordable" mean?)

Hard to argue against the T2's guitar voices, and the G70/E80's Guitar mode can get you close, but the bottom line is..... a great guitar voice and a great guitar style only get you close. I find they are best used for rhythm and strumming, and cover them up with your own keyboard playing!

Trying to make your arranger sound 'exactly' like a guitarist is a daunting task, and the voice itself is the smallest part of the equation. Just learning typical guitar voicing is very unintuitive unless you already play guitar. So much of what they do comes about strictly because that's how it falls under the fingers on a guitar neck. No other reason..... Because that's how the neck is laid out, that's how you do it, whether you like it or not.

Just find a good guitarist (they need gigs, too!) and be prepared for how much more you are going to enjoy your musical experience. When you only ever play with yourself, well, you know what your momma said would happen if you kept doing that!!

It is a hard question to answer. I'd probably say Tyros II as well, from hearing demos. Don't know how that question can be answered though honestly, if you look at the situation that played itself out a few days ago. Tons of peoples' ears went right out the window because of the lengthy post explaining the fake procedure. Now everyone can talk about how this and this and that is simply impossible on a keyboard guitar, when at the time we had people saying they could definitely tell that Chet and Tommy's playing wasn't real guitar.

I'm not saying this to pour salt on wounds either....so don't take it that way. I'm merely pointing out the facts of what happened, to illistrate that opinions on what sounds best need to be made by the person doing the buying; because how can you trust the opinions of someone who says that this or that guitar is the most realistic, when even the real guitar isn't immediately noticed as being real?

The SD1 EXP and SD5 have excellent guitars, however, as others point out, it depends a lot on exactly how you hit the keys. Listen to real guitars and analyse what you're hearing... which can be said about any instrument you're trying to emulate.

Much of this depends on the individual performer. As you are aware, Don Mason can make that keyboard sound better than most guitarists can make their guitars sound. The best I've heard comes from Julio, who at one time was a frequent contributor here and SVPworld. He now has his own site, but when my hard drive crashed it was among the many addresses I lost. His magical fingers glide over the keyboard with such precission that no one can tell the difference, especially when he plays Flamenco style.

One of the things I discovered years ago involved layering of two different guitar sounds, which provided some incredible effects. Additionally, tuning the guitar using the keyboard's onboard Sound Creator feature, then saving it as a custom voice, provides you with the ability to utilize effects that cannot readily be achieved using a real guitar.
