First Andrea, I HOPE you get your "poorly" VA-7 fixed, as it is now the new year, and its the last thing you want (didn't nobody wish you a Happy new year )J/K!

I would like to know in detail, how the effects are worked out on the Roland VA-7. How many effects are there for starters? (on the specs, I see it is about 3 or 4, which include Chorus, Reverb, and MFX (whatever that means). Now this being the only arranger I have considered along with the KN6500/Yamaha pro 9000, I would like to know how many EFFECTS you can have running simultaneously.

For example, if I want a Mult/Sequencer set-up, could I do the following: Bass with Delay,Electric Piano with Chorus and Auto pan, Rotary organ with the rotary effect, and strings with Phaser, with a Guitar Distortion effect? The Effects are in BOLD(6 of them). Now I know that I wouldn't want to use these effects all the time, but what possibilities are there here?.

MFX. Now what does the MFX include on the Roland VA-7, because the new Roland Fantom (and XV5050) for example, can use two master, with THREE inserts (50 times three). does the Va-7 (being a Roland) do it the same way?. Reason I ask about the effects section, is because everything else on it is really superb I think, and would have liked more Effects on it like the KN6500/Yamaha Pro 9000 etc (remember, I am not talking about the effects as such themselves, but the "buses", or the AMOUNT you can have running at the same time.

Hi Nimrod,
my VA 7 is working again since I have reinstalled the previous OS (1.03), because the 2.0 I had before was completely locked up and unreadable (I tried to save it to a floppydisk, but to no avail).
I hope to have 2.0 reinstalled by the end of the week, however.
Re. your question, when you record a track you can send each track to an effect like Reverb, Chorus and Delay (three buses, one for each effect); the original tone will still have its original effect (like the rotary for an organ), only if this belongs to another category, the MFX (multieffect).
In fact, besides the three basic effects I mentioned before, the VA7 has an Equalizer and a multieffect (the famous MFX), which has 89 presets that range from Enhancer to Humanizer, Overdrive, Distortion, Phaser, Rotary, Auto-wha, Limiter, Tremolo, Auto pan, etc and even some multi-effects (combination of Chorus and Delay, Chorus and Flanger, Rhodes multi, Guitar multi, etc). So, when you record a track, each tone (up to 16 for the 16 sequencer tracks) will still have its original effect, but only if this effect belongs to the "multieffect" category.
I hope to have answered your question; I can add that I have started to discover the potential of the VA7 DSP only when I upgraded to v. 2.0 and was given a new ZIP disk full of User Programs programmed by an international team. What a difference with the original programs stored in ROM!
I am now using these new programs as templates to create my own sounds.
Best regards,
Andrea

Thanks Andrea, I am a little wiser after your post!. The Multi combination sounds intersting (Chorus and Delay, Chorus and Flanger, Rhodes multi, Guitar multi etc). Is it possible to use for example, more Delay than Chorus in this MFX? (like individuall Gain settings for each effect). for example, if I want Chorus And Flanger, is it possible to adjust the flanger to lower levels, while keeping the Chorus the same etc?. A Phaser/delay, flager/delay would be very nice - does it have these? (and the ability to change the amount "effect" on the TWO MULTI effect. For Example, Could I have a Rotary Organ and a Phaser running at the same time? (Two DSP's are these) along with Chorus reverb, Delay, and EQ.

That's it Andrea, no more Questions..promise , but it is a major purchase for me, and people who I ring up in shops around the country have absolutley no idea whatsoever. Not one bit. I *WISH* there was a Manual (ACROBAT) to download

Also, what "support " for the keyboard? (can't seem to find any Forums for this keyboard in the same way I can for Technics and yamaha keyboards). Are there any websites/forums at all for the VA-7?. I would like to know where people "get together" on the VA-7 - in the same way as other popular boards as named above. I'm sure it is a great keyboard with super sounds...but it doesn't seem to be in the "most popular" keyboard catagory.

Cheers

Nimrod,
there is (or at least there was) a manual to download (in PDF format) on the Roland site of Italy ( http://www.roland.it ; go to the download page, then choose arrangers).
On the manual you will find a list of all the effects available and every other thing you need to know.
Here is a link to a VA site: http://www.homestead.com/va7_roland/files/

Good luck with your choice!
Andrea

I am afraid that this will be the longest thread ever posted on this Forum; I have copied from the VA 7 manual the list of the available MFXs: it's in italian, and I have tried to translate whenever possibile:
every effect has two parameters that can be controlled with the two sliders M-Value 1 e M-Value 2 on the display. Parameters marked with an asterisk (*) can be controlled with an optional footswitch.

Dreamer . I really appreciate all if this you have done!. (only just logged on, so will read it AFTER this post. Yes I went to the Site you memtioned (Roland.it), but couldn't find the Manual as such, but only brochures, and anyway, my "Italian" is Zero, so if the manual was there it wouldn't be much point downloading it!.

Your second Link (homestead etc), doesn't direct me to anywhere - except itself that is "Thank you for visiting this Homestead Web site"

Thanks once again Andrea, much much muchness appreciated .

This VA-7 deserves more exposure to the world I can tell you.

VA-1 will have 3 master effects and one insert effect an the same time.

when you say that each sound retains it's MFX setting is missleading.

So Nimrod, refering to you original question.. you can't have the effects setup you are looking for in VA-7.

Nimrod,
if the link to the VA7 site didn't work, try this one: http://www.homestead.com/va7_roland/

Shakil,
I am not misleading anyone; I am simply trying to be helpful. If you think that I am not correct, then say what you have to say and try to be polite, if you can. Maybe your english is not perfect (mine isn't either), but the world "misleading" has a rather unpleasant connotation and some people may take offense at that.
