I am torn between buying a 2nd hand 9000 or a new 3000. Can anyone outline the differences?

Cheers,
David

The PSR9000 has 61 keys like the PSR3000. The PSR3000 incorporates the One Touch Settings within the style. If you get any style from another keyboard that has OTS, it won't load on the PSR9000.

I think the PSR3000 is a better choice for most people.

David,

If I were in your shoes, I would not even consider the 9000. Though it was a good keyboard in its time, by today's technological standards it's an antique.

Thanks everyone, I'm now thinking more towards the 3000.
I'm going to a music store next week and they've said that they'll let me have as long as I like playing each of them, so I'm hoping to make a decision then.

Hello, I forgot......in PSR 3000 speakers built in...good even for a small house party...also to monitor.....9000 Pro do not have speakers built in, it needs external amplification....., in my opinion, the PSR 3000 is a better option.

The PSR9000 Pro doesn't have speakers, but the PSR9000 does!
I don't know what the price difference is between the second hand PSR9000 and a the brand new PSR3000, but if soundquality is important to you, I would go for the PSR3000.
Check the yamahaPKClub site, where you find the update software for the PSR9000. There is also a manual addition for version 3 on that site: click here .
There is also Pipeliner's site about the PSR9000. I suggest you download the PSR9000 and PSR3000 manual and if possible, play the keyboards.

Man time really flies here on the forum. I remember when I first joined just over 4 years ago, the boards to have were the PSR-740, G-1000, EM-2000, KN5000/6000, Ketron X1, and a few others. I remember when the PSR-9000 came out... Then the Pro was released and many said ohhhhhh, ahhhhhh, (I drooled all over my shirt). We've come a long way over the last four years with arranger keyboards.

There may be some confusion between the 61-note PSR9000 and the 76-note 9000 Pro. They are really two different animals. Aside from the 9000 Pro not having internal speakers, it also has expansion slots for the PLG-series cards that the PSR9000 does not (neither does the PSR3000 for that matter). The PSR9000 was far more suited to home use and the 9000 Pro was more suited to stage use.

Interestingly, a new PSR3000 sells for about the same as a used 9000 Pro currently... but they are not alike. Most casual users will prefer the PSR3000 I think.
