.. one of the great memories of Bob Hope goes back to my early teens, watching his LIVE tv show ... a beautiful young girl comes out on stage with "Merry Christmas" written down one leg, and "Happy New Year" down the other ... Mr Hope looked at her and said " .. how about we meet between the holidays... " ... as the audience laughed, the tv screen went black ... the next thing we saw was the message 'Due to technical difficulties the rest of the Bob Hope Show will not be televised'... The censors had taken him off the air ... how we have "progressed?!?!? ...

Too bad for a great american who selflessly entertained so many of the US troops all his life.

Unfortunately, for us and for our children, we will never see another like him...

I agree with all of the above, but as Bob would have said, the show must go on. Gotta gig tonight and I just finished my tribute version of "Thanks For The Memory". That and "I'll Be Seeing You" should cover the bases.

But I'll just be doing ham-and-egg stuff conpared to my friend, Bob Alberti, who lives here on Hilton Head and is an awesome jazz pianist. He was the pianist and arranger for Bob Hope's television show and worked for NBC for 23 years. He has a new biography out and plays every Thursday at the local Jazz Corner. My wife and I already had plans to see him perform this Thursday and I'm sure he'll have some memories to share. BTW/FYI: his website is http://www.bobalberti.com/
