hi all, iv,e noticed that some chords have different names eg,C6 is also Am7 and F6 is also Dm7, how many more are there of these,some of the pro,s here should know,mike

I am afraid that almost ALL the chords may have more than one name, especially if you include the "rootless" ones. Example: an Fmaj7 (F-A-C-E) is also a rootless Dm9, a Gm7 (G-Bb-D-F) is also a rootless C9/11, and so on... makes one think, uh?

For a couple that come to mind is all augmented and diminished chords are the same:

C+=E+=G#+
C#+=E#+(F+)=A+
D+=F#+=Bb+
Eb+=G+=B+

Cdim=Ebdim=F#dim=Adim
C#dim=Edim=Gdim=Bbdim
Ddim=Fdim=Abdim=Bdim

So that means there are really only four augmented chords and three diminished chords.

I think most players would pick the inversion they prefer and use only one of each group most of the time.
