I was wondering how many others are using their wk series or sk series keyboards for other than home use. If you are gigging, what other equipment do you bring along such as keybaord amps. mixers, etc. I have been using my wk8 at home but this may change in the near future and it would be interesting to hear some feedback from some of the gigging Gem users out there.

I used my WK for small performances, just me on the keyboard. I started with an old Sony radio Amp and two home-built boxes (which gave good sound). Now, I have a Torque set; one amp and two boxes.

The Torque has a weird line in; also a continu light noise/distortion.

Hi Joost. What I've been playing around with the last few days is routing the vocals out of output 3 into my Scott power amp to get a separate mix of just the vocal output. I really need to pick up a compressor to squish my vocals into behaving themselves. My wife's voice projects beautifully while mine keeps getting stuck somewhere down the mic cable. A separate amp dedicated to the vocals seems to work well. That way, I can set the arranger volume through the internal speakers and have plenty of volume for vocals without them feeding back through the internal speakers. I'm still not completely satisfied with this arrangement. But it’s getting close.

I use my keyboard for:

1) home use

2) very large performance

3) small performances

4) professional studio recording at home project studio and at external studio.

I know many GEM keyboardists who use WK series for living and live performance.

Hi sk880user. You mentioned in your reply that you do small and large performances. Do you use the sk880 for those or do you have a more portable keyboard. The reason I was wondering was doesn't the sk880 weigh in around 90-100 lbs.?

Vic,

Yes, Unfortunately, I do carry the Sk880 with me with two roland KC100 amplifiers and all accessories. But yes my brother owns Yamaha PSR740 and an older yamaha PSR keyboard.

As you mentioned, I really need a 61 keyboard. I was thinking seriously of buying Solton X1, but now I will be waiting for the new GEM. I am hoping it will be something new and excellent.

Do you use the kc100's to get stereo out? With all the accessories it sounds like when it's time to play out you've definitely got your hands full. I'm also very interested to see what the new Gem's will offer. I am very satisfied with my wk8 so if they can improve on that it will really be something. I'm also interested in the psr2000 as a possible second board but I'm so comfortable with Gem and what their boards offer in the way of styles and sequencing that it will be hard to move me out of their camp. Since I got my wk8, I seldom use my PC sequencer and I've been a PC sequencing person since the late 80's. I've heard others talk about the steep learning curve with Gem but I find my wk8 very intuitive.

Yes. I do. Stereo sounds (ST_something) are very nice. The soft rock (12beat) on the WK8 is not nice at all. This really needs to be updated. We will see.
