Does anyone know this one? I've seen many articles about both these keyboards and have played both, but the only one I've seen listed for Mb's was the 740.. I know the 640 is a majorly stripped down version of the 740 (and I mean major), but does it have the same wave rom as the 740?

Most likely not.
Maybe close but not the same.

Hi Squeak,
I remember seeing the figures for the sound Mbs for the 640 and 740. The answer is that the 640 has slightly less. The 740 did not have that much itself, maybe 14 when the 640 had 12 - that ball park anyway. It was a fair while ago when I read the figures. At the time I had a 640 and thought it was great. If need be I can find those figures for you. From memory they listed the 640 / 740 / 8000 and 9000 Mb's.

I believe the PSR740 has 12MB of wave rom whilst the PSR640 has 8MB.

A useful comparison of current models can be found at
http://www.keyboard.on.ca/portable_keyboard_comparison_chart.htm

Dont know how accurate this is, as the PSR1000 seems quite a downgrade with 1/2 of the wave memory of the PSR2000 !

Thanks Simon.
That is an interesting link. I think that your figures are probably right as I can't see the PSR1000 being less than the 640.
