Squeak,
The PSR540 has 215 panel voices, the PSR550 has 219 panel voices. What extra four voices does the PSR550 have?
OK, 1. Sweet flute.

Well lets see, there's the "cool" electic guitar, "sweet" flute, "sweet" tenor, and I can't think of the other off the top of my head..

They actually added 4 new ones and replaced 6 others:
New sounds: Folk G/pick1, Folk G/pick2, Folk G/pick3, Vintage Open, Vintage Chors, Cool electric, Vintage mute, Tech Strings, Sweet Tenor, Sweet Flute.
Replaced: Slap Guitar, Vintage Lead, Meta Wood, Krypton, Loch Ness, Phase IV.
None of the ones removed by Yamaha are memorable. Good move Yamaha.
Hey Squeak, what are these new sounds\tones like?

Starkeeper,
They aren't too bad.. The sweet flute and sweet tenor are awsome... I love the ability to get the "chiff" sound from the flute.. The sweet tenor is nice too.. I just wish they would have also added the growl sax.. They should have replaced the standard breathy sax sound with the "growl sax" With the sweet tenor added I don't know whey they even kept the original breathy sax.. The sweet tenor is nice and all, but it doesn't really cut it for that down and dirty sax solo. It's like the sweet trumpet.. It works well for that nice smooth slow solo. The 3 new folk pick guitars are pretty good.. I think the could have lowered the volume of the "pick effect" though.. I think it's a tad harsh. One is really nice because it has a pretty decent chourus effect on it. As far as the tech strings are concerned.... I say blah to that.. They really didn't impress me too much. The vintage open, chorus, and mute are really nice.. The cool electric sounds really good.. Great velocity switching on the sound... Again like I said, the 550 may be 8 megs now, but the extra memory they put in this really didn't go to any of the other sounds.. It all went to the new and replaced sounds they added... However the extra memory that they used was divided up rather well.
