I need some help please, I know nothing about this. Can you use a 128 polyphony tone module with a keyboard that only has 64 polyphony? If so will you hear 128 or 64? I have a Roland EM2000 (64 poly) and I want to obtain more piano sounds. Does anyone have any recommendations? I was looking at an Alesis Nano Piano module (64 poly), but was wondering could I do better. The best piano sound I have found on the EM2000 is the "Piano 3w", but I wanted a more realistic piano sound.

Thanks
pat

Yes you can, and the result will be 128.

Thanks......do you know of a 64 or a 128 module that you could suggest?? I was not sure if I should go with a roland one or not. Didn't want to duplicate sounds that I already have. I am primarily interested in the piano sounds.

I think piano sounds are the most subjective of all. Even in the acoustic world .... you'll have people who swear by Steinway or Yamaha, or Baldwin. Even within the same manufacturer, the tones are likely to be very different. I think Roland has always had terrific piano samples, but you need to make that determination for yourself, with your own ears. The controller you use will also effect the way velocity response is triggered in the sound module. The EM2000 was not one of my favorite key beds, so you may get more expressive piano sounds with a different controller...ever using the EM as the sound source.
Whatever you do ... just listen first. Buy with your ears and NOT your eyes.
