wondering if broadway/musical numbers would be appropriate for the senior set -
I know quite a few of them, and many of the lyrics are already in my head, so no learning curve there.

here's a sampling of a few I pretty much know by heart . . .

Cabaret
wouldn't it be loverly
get me to the church on time
hello dolly
put on a happy face
and on and on . . .

any suggestions appreciated if you feel this type of music is suitable . .
thanks,

Jill

A little "Broadway" medley will fit in nicely in you show for a captive audience...but I wouldnt try it for a dance crowd. MOst times in a NH you hve only an hour to showcase your stuff, so mix it up liberly with ALL GENRES in a brisk moving informative show that will keep them on their feet!

A 'medley' of "Hello Dolly/Mame/Cabaret" works well ....

excellent! and thanks . . .
i'm gearing much of my stuff toward the "hour type" senior shows right now, as i continue to build my solo repetoire.
I like the medley idea too!

girljam ... you've probably thought of this, but ... I am not sure which kb you play, but I believe the Tyros and 3000 has a function similar to the 'Panel Memory' function of the technics kn6000 ... In the PM, I store all the various registrations I want for the different tunes: voices, styles, tempos, etc. and save them to the HD ... When performing, I 'Load" the PMs and just hit the PM button I want for the particular song ... My 'song index' tells me what PMs I have set up for what songs in a medley ... This way depending on the reult I'm looking for, I can keep the same tempo, but with different styles to match the songs, or even change the tempo ...

Another well received medley is a 6 song set of tunes recorded by Al Jolson in the 40's:
Back in your own back yard
Toot Toot Tootsie
Rockabye Your Baby
Mammy
Swanee/Robert E. Lee

I have a psr2100,
so that would be the registration banks.

I have a great 20s 30s 40s songbook that even gives you a small "blurb" about what was going on/what was popular that particular year when the song was written - great stuff!

I often like to OPEN my shows with Cabaret.

Hi Girljam
My wife is an Activity Director at a nursing home. She always tells me the residents like a 'fast moving program' In other words, 45 -60 min max of fairly up tempo songs. Medlies like 'My blue heaven/Blacksmith blues/Chattanooga Choo Choo/Mississippi Mud/At sundown/Who's sorry now and 'When you wore a tulip/All of me seem to work OK. I'm sure your Broadway show tunes will be fine.
