I could have put this reply to all of you asking about the internal speaker sound as a reply to an older topic, but I thought it was important enough to get everyone's attention. I have been selling the G70, which although has the same EQ presets which are found when you select the effects tab, I really never went to this page and made any changes. The E50 and E60 have the EQ as part as the multi effects processor. The E80 defaults to a EQ preset called "standard" (#6). In my opinion, this is not the one I would have choosen. Pop, Jazz, Classic, Flat, Rock all sound really good. The "standard" sounds too hollow to my ears and has very little bottom end. Pop and Jazz adds that really nice bass tone and even turned all the way up, there is no distortion. Now, I can say the speakers sound good....and loud. With my experience, I should have gone to this area and try all the choices, but I would also say that Roland might have left the EQ in the preset called "flat" rather than standard. Who's standard? is my question. Also, the fact that it's very easy to go in a create a user (#7) is the next step. ------------------ George Kaye Kaye's Music Scene Reseda, California 818-881-5566 www.kayesmusicscene.com

George, how do the internal speakers on the E80 sound in comparison to those on the PA800?

Now that I've found the EQ and I also just found the speaker modeling section which allows you to select what type of speakers you want the internal or external speakers to sound like. You can choose "thru" which is the default, or 12 different types of speaker cabinets: thru super flat powererd Genelec powered e-bass powered mackies small cube white cone (NS10 woofer) white-cone (NS10's with tweeter) small radio small tv boom box room box low "simulations of various reference monitors, including low-quality(or small) speakers. Recording engineers often listen to their mixes on various speakers to check whether all important parts and effects are preserved on different speaker configurations. These simulations apply both to the internal speakers and to the OUTPUT and PHONES sockets." Then, there is a digital bass enhancer for the internal speakers. There are three positions: off low "low end is boosted slightly, creating a more powerful sound." high "low end is boosted in a similar fashion as for high-quality car stereos you can hear from miles away." Don't forget, the Mastering Tools 3-band compressor can have a DRASTIC effect on the sound, too. Don't be afraid to try some different presets here, too, or my personal fave, turn the darn thing off, and enjoy the sound of the keyboard without it getting squashed...!
Also, as obviously confused spalding's so called 'product specialist', there are TWO Mastering Tools sections (unlike the G70 which has only one). One for the Keyboard Parts, and one for the Style and SMF Parts. Obviously, (except to the poor 'specialist'!) if you adjust the wrong one for the section you are listening to, you are not going to hear ANY difference...
I guess we just have to remember that even a product specialist, when faced with a new model he hasn't had much time with, is just as easily confused as the rest of us!
The E80 definitely has an extra layer or two of potential confusion... Not only does it have a 3 band EQ and 3 band compressor on the Keyboard Parts, and a separate set for the Style/SMF Parts, but AFTER this is the speaker modeling presets, which only affect the speaker, NOT the line-outs... Confusing? Well, maybe not after you have grasped the signal flow, but initially, you have to be careful that WHAT you are adjusting actually affects the section you want...
