Hi all, new to the board and seeking advise. I'm looking to purchase a synth for home composition. I'm a piano player and as such weighted keys are important. I'd like an 88-key but not really sure what's out there. I'm most interested in a controller or master keyboard that I can add modules on later, so touch and key action are important to me. I would also like an on-board sequencer. I've been researching for days and can't seem to put my finger on anything.

I'm considering getting an older used model but was curious as to your recommendations. If I could find an older discontinued model to suit my needs and save some money at the same time that would be great.

Any thoughts?

TIA

I would recommend either going to harmonycentral.com, or to sonicstate.com, and look at the reviews of the keys you're looking at. Best of luck to you.

TIA,

here are a few things to consider . if you are buying a keyboard to use as a controller , you will need pitch bend and modulation . Guitar Center's just started stocking the Alesis QS8.1 for $999.99 .
Another keyboard on the horizon will be the
Yamaha S08 for around $1199.99 (april) .

If you walk into a store , the 1st thing I would look for is pitch bend and mod wheel !

Fatar SL990 or SL1100 are other controllers ( no sounds) . SL990 at my store is $399.99 for a floor model ( no pitch bend ) .
SL1100 = $599.99
good luck email ketronguy@yahoo.com or call me at GC 410-821-5200 Towson Md .

Thanks for the advise everyone! I'll keep looking. I did stumble across an old Yamaha SY-77 for sale. Any thoughts on that model?

For some time, the SY-77 and 99, were Yamaha's flagships. I've never even touched one so.. I don't think they (should) cost much anymore. Only buy it if it's really cheap. It's from the dark era of digital synthesizers

Have a look at this: http://www.rolandus.com/PRODUCTS/MI/MI.HTM

Check out other Roland weighted keyboards too:

There are alot of keyboards out there, but I always check out Roland gear first.
The RD series are tops.

Thanks Nova, I had been looking at the RD-150. If I can find one reasonably priced I think I'll go that route.

Thanks again for everyone's input.
