So I finally got around to buying a PSR2000!

And everything everyones ever said (good and bad) seems pretty accurate!

But without your comments it would have been much harder to make the decision - which basically is I can live with the bad points to get at the good ones, which for me are the polyphony, sound quality and especially speed of operation "on the fly" from the disc.

There have been posts on here about "noise". Certainly through the speakers I have a slight background hiss but this sounds like normal integrated circuit amplifier noise; though a PA its as clean as a whistle via the Jacks.

As I already own a PSR630 then I'm pretty acclimatised to the Yamaha 'budget' keyboard action.

I haven't found out my operating system standard yet, but as the "buggy" areas don't affect my use of the keyboard - yet - this is not a big problem!

To repeat, thanks for the help.

Live long and prosper!

(no I'm not a serious trekkie - but here's a trek joke anyway "Kirk to Enterprise: Nice trick Scotty; can you beam my clothes down now???")

Hi MacAllcock,
Hope you enjoy your new board. I played one a while ago in Rimmers at Preston. I was quite taken with it. I live just up the road from you in Lancaster so I usually shop at Rimmers or Hamiltons, whichever give the better deal
Anyway have fun with your 2000

Congratulations on getting your new PSR-2000! I know you will enjoy it. Since you already had a 630, everything won't be entirely new to you, but you may, nonetheless, find the PSR-2000 Tutorial site worth a visit now that you own the 2000. Here is the link:

Thanks folks.

Tony: I've also purchased from both places although interestingly enough I got the 2000 from "thomann" in Germany via the internet as it was still a better deal despite postage and euro->pounds sterling conversion charges!

Joe: I went there whilst investigating - and very worthwhile it was too. You are on my favourites list!

I just bought PSR2000. Now I am little sad because I think that PA80 were better keyboard. Sounds are far more better and so on. Of course PSR2000 is also great but PA80 is just better. Only thing why I am not want to buy it is the lack of additional styles. I can't find them anywhere. I can find so much PSR2000 styles but not PA80. PA80 was only 100$ more expensive than PSR. So far I don't need those storage extras such as hard drive or flash card device so I thought that I don't want to pay 100$ more. PA60 would be the best choice for me.

Had the price difference here in the UK been as low as $100 then my decision would have been much harder, and I might well now be a PA80 owner instead!

Nevertheless I am very happy with 2000; for my uses the sounds and styles are excellent and the speed of floppy operation is such that I do not regret the lack of a hard disc option.

Hey guys...

Don't waste too much time with second guessing. I own both the PSR2000 and the pa80. I have to tell you, I've hardly played the pa80 at all in the last 3-4 months. I just like the PSR2000 better.

Yep, I still think the PSR2000 is a great sounding keyboard and a terrfic value, despite a few minor quirks (no flash ROM upgradeability, no hard drive, limited User Rom storage), is both a great home & studio KB and best choice for gigging musicians who need a small & light easily transportable unit that has terrific sounds, a good selection of usable stock styles, and a terrific Music Finder Database which makes song selection & searching (alphabetical, by genre, styles, and customizable fields) both easy & quick. Yamaha was somehow able to put both pro features (Music Finder, Styles with integrated OTS settings, 1,920 ppq song & style sequencer note resolution) & excellent sound in a sub $1,000 keyboard. I think that was an amazing accomplishment. I've owned mine for 6 months and am still very pleased with it as my primary live gigging kb. Believe it or not, I prefer the PSR2000's sounds over the my former Technics KN5000 keyboard which originally cost me over $3K with hard drive & assesories. TThe PSR2000 has no keyboard afterTouch, but doesn't pose a problem (for me) because Yamaha chose to instead incorporate (with great realistic sounding success) aftertouch vibrato into the samples themselves (sax, flute, etc). Even the lightweight (flimsy?) keyboard action has (surprisingly) not been a problem for me, especially since my keyboard background has been playing weighted action acoustic pianos. Andrea (Dreamer), Roland VA7 & Ketron SD1 owner, who visited me from Italy and heard me perform on the PSR2000 as well as play my PSR2000 himself over last week, has almost instantly become a fan of the PSR2000 as well. He told me he was particularly impressed with the sax ad horn sounds, and that he is now seriously considering purchasing the PSR2000 too. Currently my only beef with the PSR2000 is lack of flash ROM, and limited onboard ROM storage, but at $1,000, the PSR2000 (imho)remains the BEST arranger keyboard value out there. - Scott

For whatever it is worth, The reason I purchased the 9000 is because I kept hearing Scott hype his 2000 and so I boogied into town and tried them both, read both manuals, and came home with the 9000 cause it was marked way down. I now have all the styles from the kn5000 in it as well and I could not be persuaded for any reason to make a change at this time. The kn6000 and the yamaha 9000 are happily co-existing side by side in my recording studio and we are all smiling all the time, even my wife and dog Rocky
Best to all
