How can I send sysex message F0,7E,7F,09, 01,F7 (General midi on) to my Roland WITHOUT a sequencer?
Will eventually get Pro-Tracks. Can Pro-Tracks do this?

What is your 'Roland' ?
Why do you want to send a GM-ON command from an external device ?
I would expect the Roland to have at least some buttons and there is a way to set the GM to ON. with the help of a manual.

As far as I know Pro-tracks IS a sequencer-program, so I do not understand your question

SYSEX-messages can be recorded and played back with sequencers. Most sequencer-progs e.g. Cubase have an option to read/build or edit the messages by hand (hexadecimal numbers)

You can merge the message to midifiles, to be sure the 'Roland' is in the right GM mode.

Thanks for responding. My Roland is an EM20 arranger keyboard (no disc drive). Playing MIDI files or playing arranger software turns the keyboard in to record mode and plays different voices. (Gets screwed up). A reply from Roland tech said I had to send a MIDI on message to the keyboard. I don't see anything in the manual about turning MIDI on (you'd think it would default to MIDI, since I'm using a MIDI connection).
I was asking if anyone knows if Pro-Tracks can send these MIDI-on message info.
Also is there a way of doing this without a sequencer.

One more thing. When I played the Tyros shoot out piano MIDI file, it played without a problem. Probably no voice changes sent thru the MIDI channel.

I think the VAN BASCO midifileplayer (PC software) can help you.
The user is able to choose which midi reset command he wants : XG, GS, GM and even a 'default' file that can contain your SYSEX message.

Once again thanks. I see the icon just above the message, Duh!
After we were hit with email virus a couple of times, systems stopped allowing .vbs and .exe file attachments.
