Has anyone else heard an extremely loud "click" through the p.a. system (when the 740 is connected to one) when you push the "TEMPO" switch?
It is totally unacceptable in live performance and I'm wondering if it's just on the one I'm using or a universal flaw.
Thanks,
Don

I have the same loud click when I tap the tempo button. I haven't figured out yet how to mute the click. If anyone knows, please let me know.

Sometime ago there was a post mentioning that the click you hear has to do with the metronome count-in settings - could this be the problem you are seeing? (I don't own a PSR 740, but that post came to mind)

There was a post a while back on this. Yes they all do it. Hook an expression pedal to it and back off on it before you press the button. Then you won't hear it. That is the only way so far that I have found.

About Tempo click, I hope this is of some help.
On PSR 740 the Tempo button is also the Tap tempo button.
So, the first time we click this button PSR 740 expect we are using
the Tap function. The Tap has a click sound as a metronome. That the reason
we hear a metronome click. But this only happen if the Auto accompaniment
is not playing. With this Part playing, we can also change the Tempo using the
Tap feature (in this case only two clicks are enough), or using the dial, or the number keys, without hear any metronome click.

Guys,
I played with the 740 in my store yesterday and I tried everyway to assign the volume pedal to not here the click and I could not do it. Even when I set the volume pedal to master volume, I could not get rid of the metronome first click. I think this is very strange. Why can I reduce all the other sounds in the keyboard to 0, but not that awful click sound? Tom Cavanaugh says he gets rid of the click if he turns off the 740's master volume with a pedal before pushing the tempo button, but I still here the click. Any suggestions? I tried to call Yamaha yesterday, but they put me on hold for too long.

George,
I finally got around it by doing this:
Turn the volume down with pedal, start the style, then hit the tempo button. Then you can stop the style and adjust the tempo.
The click does not occur while the style is running. This procedure is ridiculous and should not be necessary but it will work.
I'm assuming the PSR9000 does not have this problem!
