Hi all,
Does anyone know the difference on key feel, type on the psr9000 vs the 2000. Is the 9000 better? Help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Zuki

Hi Zuki. YEP, the PSR9000 key feel is a whole LOT better than the PSR2000's more 'toy like' key feel. But then again, the PSR2000 weighs 24 lbs vs 50 lbs for the PSR9000. I've heard reports that the new 27 lb Tyros' key feel is similar (or possibly even better) than even the PSR9000. - Scott

Thanks Scott,
I have a chance to pick up a psr9000 locally at a bargain price. I have tons of past files from the 2000 and 740. I've read past posts on some bugs in the 9000 - not sure if that should scare me away or if they have current os downloads that solved whatever problems they were. I just plan to keep at the house, so moving it will be only one time.
Can you comment on the bug thing?
Thanks,
Zuki

Zuki,

Go to http://www.yamahapkclub.com/english/top_e.htm click 'downloads','psr 9000 os upgrade'. That's where you can download OS 3.2. and where they describe various upgrades and bug fixes.

I have had my PSR-9000 for 2 1/2 years now and never had any problems with it. It's still a great keyboard with lots of features, wonderful sound, and fantastic styles. It's a little heavy. OK ... it's VERY heavy, mainly due to the wooden speaker encasings but that's what helps make the on-board speakers sound really nice.

I'm sure you'll be very happy with your purchase for years to come.

Thanks ev,
I just got off the phone with the seller and I am looking at it tomorrow morning. All avenues keep leading me back to Yamaha and built-in speakers, no matter how much I stray. Thanks for the os info. I probably will load it up in my car, check the os system and get it up to date by this time tomorrow. Best regards,
Zuki

Zuki: I agree with ev. I've not heard of any bugs (serious) with the 9000, especially after you've updated the OS to the current version. It sounds like an excellent choice for you, if you don't mind the heavy weight, and considering that it's been out for quite a long time now, you should EXPECT a particularly GOOD deal (well under $2,000). Curious to hear how much the seller is asking. Keep us posted. - Scott

PSR9000 is for married dudes. Wives don't get hernias carrying it around
Version 3.2 is bug free as far as I can tell. Takes 5 floppies to download and install and is free on the net. I really like this board and I have had many but never a yamaha. I think Scott talked me into this yammie and I am happy about it. the KN6000 sits and pouts now days.

I've had a 9000 for a little less than a year. I'm quite happy with it. There were bug issues when it first came out, and that's the "ancient history" you'll read about if you research this PSR on the net. The newest OS updates took care of those complaints. Now is a good time to buy one, from people moving on to Tyros.

Bob

PS: I just LOVE having a CD, ZIP250 AND a HD all hooked up to my 9k! One CD alone holds 650mb of styles, which you can organize on your computer and burn for PSR use.... I don't move a style or 30 on a floppy, I just take whole FOLDERS and move them by the ZIP250 (250mb of styles at a time). You can even get a very fast USB interface for your PC from the 9k; not available at this time for Tyros....
