Jorgen,

Your program looks very interesting. However, I tried to run it under Windows XP and it would not run. Further investigation on your support site indicated the JAVA engine from Sun Micro systems must be installed for the product to run.

Sorry, but I don't intend on using the Java machine on my pc so therefore I don't think I will be using your program.

I'm just curious, why you chose this development platform? Why are you forcing your users to go through this technical installation? Why not write the program in C#, C++, etc. and do a nice simple installation on the users desktop so that it runs out of the box?

Thanks
Al

Hi Al

I choose to write midi2style in Java as this is the only programming language I am that familiar with.

The installation of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is not "technical" at all. It is as easy as installing e.g. Acrobat Reader.
Just download one file and run it - and JRE is set up! It can not be easier!

I am beginning to learn C#. However running C# programs will require set up of the Microsoft .NET framework at the users computer.
In principle the very same process as running Java programs!

Give Java a try!

Hi Jorgen,

Thanks for the reply.

Just a F.Y.I. the .NET framework is distributed on Windows XP Service Pack 1.

Regards,
Al

Hi Al

Yes I am aware of the distribution of .NET Framework with XP SP1.

At the moment the visitors at my site runs these operating systems:
1. Windows 98 36.9 %
2. Windows XP 32.4 %
3. Windows 2000 16.2 %
4. Windows ME 9.9 %
5. Windows 95 1.8 %
6. Windows NT 0.9 %
7. Unknown 1.8 %
Which means that for a while (2 years I guess) the majority of users must download .NET Framework seperately to run C# programs.

I am absolutely sure that at the moment there are many more users who are able to run Java than C#; but this will change, I think.

Therefore I might migrate to C#, when I learn some more C#.

Best wishes
Jørgen

Jorgen, you'll have to stop updating for a while! I've only just downloaded version 3. You can keep up with the Java as I have Star Office on my machine and consequently have JRE. I won't be using .NET any time soon however, not with Win95. Keep up the good work

Hi Bryan

After each new version I have thought: "Now the program is finished"; but nevertheless new wishes from users keep coming up...

Maybe a version 5 will come... But NOT in this month, I promise ;-))
