Hello,

I couldn't find a solution for this problem so I am asking you guys for help.

Many different MSP's include .wav files with same names.
For example;
MSP - CLARINET can be composed of
B1.wav, A2.wav, ...G4.wav

but also,
MSP - SAX could be composed of
C1.wav, A2.wav, ...D3.wav

As you can see there is an overlap with A2.wav.

The problem appears when you want to save both MSP's on the HD under same directory.
A2.wav will be overwritten with the latest one, which will screw up MSP.

I have tried to change .wav files to more specific ones like A2CLNT.wav and A2SAX.wav
in order to keep both on the HD but MSP doesn't allow these kind of changes.

All those MSP were created before and I have just downloaded them. Probably if I were making them from scratch I would name them differently but that is not the case.

It would be nice if I would be able to make subdirectories on X1 HD.
In that case I could have folder structure like this:
- MSP's
-CLARINET
-SAX
but I wasn't allow to do this.

Anybody have any solution for this problem?

Thanks
007

Do not RENAME the MSP files in the MSP menue. Exit and press DISK (page to HD) and go to the folder in question. Place both files in separate folders; rename in DISK mode and then transfer to the same folder. Now, you can access via MSP menu.
* RENAME using name of final sound (MSPs for SAX should be sax1.wav, sax2.wav .... saxn.wav and those for piano should be piano1.wav, piano2.wav ... pianon.wav.)
* This way, even though all the "2s" could be within the same sample range, the name 'piano' and 'sax' differenciate these names. In your example above, you are using the same name twice 'A2' and this is a no no for PC disk formats.
Hope this helps!
Thanks,
AJ

Hello AJ,

I have tried to rename files in DISC mode but it didn't help.
Here is what I did:
1. I have copied my MSP file together with its .wav components to a new file on my HD.
2. In the DISC mode I have rename all .wav files and kept the same name for the .MSP.
3. I have tried to load the MSP file from the MSP menu. The file was recognized but when it started downloading I got message "FILE NOT FOUND".
It looks to me that the main .MSP file still have static pointers to old .wav names and it can not find it since I have change their names.
I guess the .MSP file should be updated too with new names of its .wav components.

In the same folder where my .MSP and .wav components are there is a DISC.MNG file.
Does it have anything with this process ?

Please could you confirm that I am doing everything properly.
I hope there is a solution for this because it is kind of funny to have a folder for each MSP file.

Thanks
007

PS
Is there a way of automatic load of MSP files when you turn on th X1 ?
Something like automatic download of its libraries ?

Denis just a thought, have you tried to copy those files to your PC , rename them there and then copy the new files onto disk and onto the X1 again?

Hi Denis007

As Mosiqaar said when you finish let's say the Sax MSP, save it on floppy and load it into your PC and rename every one to something logical like Saxc1.wav_SaxA2.wav and so on,this way your wav files will allways be neat because you will know what wav belongs to what MSP.

Hello Asafar,

If you just rename the .wav files, as you suggested, you will not be able to load your original MSP any more. You will get messsage like "File not found".
This is because the MSP file looks for original .wav files which do not exist any more since you have renamed them.

Just as a reminder, we are not talking about MSP's which I have created from scratch. I have some MSP which were already created and I need to find a way of modifying .wav components. Therefore the link between MSP and .wav files is already established.

Thanks
Denis

These are the steps that need to be done.

* Take all the MSP files associated with the sound (e.g for the sax, take all the A1.wav, A2.wav ... and save onto one FD). The A1.wav and A2.wav for the piano should be saved onto another disk because you cannot have noth A1.wav ... etc on the same disk!!!
* Rename all these files [now on FD] to sax1.wav, sax2.wav .... and save onto FD.
* Create a new FOLDER within your HD called SAX.
* Copy all these newly named sax MSPs into the new folder. The new folder should now have ONLY the new wave files (eg 4 files) with the new name. None of the A1.wave etc files should be here.
* Now CREATE the new MSP file within this new folder that will link all the new sax.wav files - call it sax.msp. So in the new folder, you should have xxx.wav and one xxx.msp file.
* Now repeate the above for all other assosicated msp files with the other instruments (e.g Piano, Guitar ....) anything. Since you will be using different names, they can all reside withint this same new folder.

Because these are MSPs that already exist, you will have to re-create them on the X1 (and ignor the fact that they already exist!)

Hope this helps.
Thanks.
AJ

Thanks AJ

Do you think that Ketron can improve this renaming procedure in one of the next OS.

The problem with this "manual" MSP recreation is that you have to remember original effect setting on each .wav file in
order to get identical MSP.
Therefore it would be neat to have rename .wav option under MSP EDIT.

PS
In one of your earlier posts you have also mention creation of BLOCK file which can include all .wav files.
Is this still an option, or the MSP recreation is way to go ?
