On most of the keyboards, actually I think all of them, they support only the 8 digit file system example

Whenthes.mid

But in windows you can now name midi file as so

When_the_Saints_come_marching_in.mid

Can the SD-1 or any keyboard do this or have the ability to.

It really gets hard to name and figure out which file is what with only 8 characters

Just asking and complaining Frank

My PSR2K shows the first 12(?) characters of any long file names. My PSR640 shows the first 10(?) characters of the "Song Title" midifile attribute (first line of File Information in Cakewalk). If that isnt there you get the 8 character filename.

It would be nice to get 20 or 30 characters!

The Technics KN7000 is limited to 8 characters for the file name but uses a neat method of making you think you can use 16 characters. For the flash SD card (not the floppy drive), strings in a special file contain 16 character names that are displayed on the keyboard instead of the file name. The most significant limitation of this system is that you can't see or drag and drop those names when you look for the file names at the Windows Explorer. And, it can be confusing if you don't use special software for file management. It is a very useful approach that gives the appearance of 16 character names while working with hardware limitations of 8 characters.

I guess I should mention that when you save or load using the floppy disk you are still limited to 8 characters for the file name with two automatically used for the numbers 01 thru 20. That leaves 6 for the actual name that you select.
