Hi,

Is the PSR 2000 worth the extra bucks (around $200) I'll have to pay for it over the PSR 740? I understand that 2000 is a newer version of the 740... but is it worth the upgrade? ..

YES ! Well worth it.
The vocal harmonizer has been greatly improved, the sequence play has been improved, the layout has been expanded, this is a much upgraded kb. The sequencer on the 740 will not allow you to search for a song if one is playing. The speakers on the 740 are much lower powered and break up faster , escpecially when driven with the mic. The volume knob is NOT connected to the line outs on the 740 either. YOu cannot turn the sustain off on the left hand sound (740) - there are too many improvements to list.
The only reason to buy the 740 over the 2000 is if you are not a singer, don't play sequences, never play left hand bass parts, or just don't have the money.
It's in another league already.

In spite of all the problems I had with mine, working properly ( a new one with an updated Os ), I'd have to agree wholeheartedly. You can actually edit the voices a bit witn the 2000. No way to do that at all in the 740 ( except of course in the most basic sense by setting the mod wheel up to control either resonance or cutoff ).

The keyboard is great. Don't expect much cooperation from Yamaha in the service end.
I've been waiting 4 months for the alledged upgrade chip. Yamaha USA has no idea what Japan is doing. Either there is total lack of communication or they are just lying to me (us) AGAIN and waiting for everything to blow over.
If you do get the PSR2000, at least be certain that it has the latest operating system. Be sure to check it out completely and immediately register any problems.
