Hi guys,

Can any1 please give me the pros and cons of a Yamaha psr-1100 vs. Roland exr-5s?

2 things that are really imp for me:

(1) Lots n lots of styles plus the option to import new styles

(2) good piano sound (as close to a real piano as possible)

where have you been in the last two weeks?

seriously now, i couldn t give a good advice, since i didn t have any of these two.
roland is a newer generation i believe.
try to find a place to test them by yourself.
best to you!

Now i could be wrong here but lets see...the exr5s gw7 and e09 all have 32mb for the sounds and the sounds themselves are new generation with lots of new samples...and their quality is better than the va7.. The psr 1100 i think has 16mb for sounds...which probably means its sound quality is like the psr2000...although to be fair its got some sweet live and cool sounds. The features and screen are much much better on the yamaha. Keyfeel better on Roland. Stylewise id say both are quiet good...but doesnt the yamaha have more intros fill ins variations? The yamaha has more pro features .hmmm pianos i think roland is better. I have played the roland e09 and psr2000...roland sounded better so i would choose the Roland exr5s for sure.

Shouldn't you be comparing PSR1500 to EXR5?
Why not wait for the E50?
I guess you can argue that the EXR5 is 2 technologies ago, so the PSR1100 is 2 technologies ago.
The PSR1100 has organ flutes the EXR5 does not.
I think the EXR5 can hold 100 user styles, more then adequeate IMO.
The PSR1100 can hold up to 698KB of styles in flash memory.
You would have to listen to both piano voices to decide for yourself. I think the Roland piano is brighter with alot more volume gain.

Solomon82,

My 2 cents worth. I own both a Roland EXR7S and a Yamaha psr3000.

1. I personally like the styles on the Roland better. If you can possibly afford the difference in price, and decide on the Roland, try to go for the EXR7S. It has 4mb of flash as opposed to 2mb on the EXR5. If you like the availability of styles however, you can't beat the Yamaha for that. Although there are definitely plenty of styles around for the Roland, it is nothing compare to the thousands of styles around for the Yamaha.

2. If piano sound is important, again, try to go for the EXR7S because it uses 2 of the best pianos from the Fantom x. These are not present on the EXR5.

Again, if you can afford the difference in price, I would compare the EXR7S to the Yamaha PSR1500. In the voices department, I think the Yamaha psr1500 has it over the Roland EXR7S with the exception of the piano.

Hello,
For the extra money, I'd also suggest the 7s over the 5s and still very light. If the 1500 is like the 3000, then I'd suggest the Yammy for live play, for the 7s has a bit more menus for "on the fly" performance. If you can afford the 3000, then go there. I loved a lot about my 7s though, it is a great sounding board. Only you can decide and good luck. My opinion only.

There are two types of cars...Mercedes, and The Other Ones.

There are two types of keyboards...Roland, and The Other Ones.

@Starkeeper: WOW @ Roland E-50! It seems worth the wait to me, any idea about the estimated street price?

Also, in which areas will the Yamahas be superior to the E-50? Will E-50 be manageable/easy-to-setup enough for live performances? How about organs/flutes on the E-50? Will E-50 have the piano sounds from the Fantom-X?

I know some of the questions above are too soon to ask, but any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Ha Ha Ha...good one!

I would rephrase that a little.

There is only one type of car....the one I drive.

There is only one type of keyboard...the one I use.

Street price in US or Canada unknown.
The Yamaha PSR1500 has organ flutes, the E50 will not.
It is highly unlikely that Roland will put the fantom X piano on the E50, that will be reserved for the E80.
