Seems that the sounds of EXR-7 on the website sounds much better than the mighty PSR-300 which happens to be a lot more expensive. What do you guys think ?

Here are the links:

The demos clearly show that EXR has much better sounds !

When I went to the store sometime ago, I really thought the PSR3000 beat the EXR clearly. Maybe the internal sound system does not do justice for the EXR ?

Hello

I have found out that you really can't trust these demo's, unless it's a Yamaha demo. IMHO, Yamaha demo's sound like what you and I can do and sound like at home or on the gig.

I did not find that to be true of the Korg PA80/60, Technics KN2600, Technics KN7000 and the Roland. These are all fine instruments for the right person's and reason's, but their demo's are really beefed up, I think.

Best thing is to try it out in person with a 30 day trial period.

lukitoh,
I think some of those demos are impressive. The BlowAlto surprised me It sounds really good. My thing is I just can't seem to fully grasp the (bang for the buck concept) when looking at the EXR-7. This board cost's $1,000. Granted it has 76 keys, it does not have a 16 track sequencer with the options you'd find on a PSR-1500, it does not record or edit styles (from what I was told and read), it has no voice editing (not even as basic as the PSR's), even the screen used is a simple back lit LCD. I just think Roland set the price way too high on this unit. I think the price should have been right along the lines of the new Roland GW-7.

Yes, Yamaha internal sound system is often more impressive than corresponding Roland, but if you connect both to an external high quality amplification system the things can change drastically.
I'm sure that Roland doesn't beef up the demos; for instance, I listened the demos of G-70 that are available on line, and they don't play better than when played from the instrument (maybe worse).

I agree, o3bor. The G-70 sounds so much better "live" than the demos, and even better after the upgrade to 1.10.

imho by the demos only.. I thought the yamaha demo's were far more impressive. I give roland the nod on the sax tho that was sweet... but strings, guitar big edge yamaha, also edge on accordian and piano.. the woodwinds and horns sounded excellent on yamaha but I dont think they had those in the roland demo.. , hehe I was very impressed with yamaha but I may eventually end up with ex-7 cuz of cost and 76 keys ... hehe still debating.. I WOULD BUY 76 KEY Yamaha at $1500! if they had 15 more keys!! GRRRR Why dont they make it!!

anyways everyone tastes r different..

Hey Timo1

Maybe you'd like to have a PSR1500/3000 with a nice 76 note midi controller keyboard.

You could use that until Yamaha comes out with a PSR3000/Tyros module. (Yamaha corp, hint, hint}

The EXR7 is just a 76 note version of the EXR5 isn't it? Which is also the same as the Roland E200 sold by the contemporary keyboard dealers. If that's so, even thought the E200 is a fine instrument and a lot of folks will like it. I can tell you first hand that, IMHO, the Yamaha sounds 100 times better and has a MUCH easier OS.

But, the main thing is try things out and get what you want for your specific reasons.

I bought a kb a while ago, going on what everybody was saying about it, that it was the baby XXXXXX, sounds just like the top of the line XXXXX, and guess what? It sounded like crap. I was never so dissappointed in all my years in playing.
BTW, this particular instrument, sounded absolutedly dynamite on the online demo. Well, I can say that if it really sounded like that, I would have kept it. But it sounded awful and now somebody else has it, and they like it as far as I know.

Good luck on your research. That's half the fun anyway, you know. We always need to get new toys. We're just like the kids. Only thing different is, now we want adult toys. HMmmmmmmmmmmm. Take it anyway you want. haha.

This is not completely true: EXR-7 is basically similar to EXR-5 but has a lot of additional high quality sounds, including a Piano sound derived from Fantom-X 'Ultimate Grand', and some other added features.

I'm using my 3000 with an 88 key controller and it's fantastic for use at home and recording.

I wouldn't want to gig with all the extra weight, but once you've played the 3000 with 88 weighted keys it's almost impossible to do without! It's so much more expressive with better control over velocity, and when played in full keyboard mode you can really go to town!
