Do midi usb keyboards work with high speed USB2 ports on the computer? I have a Korg PA1xpro. I was considering buying USB2 connetions for my computer, but the manuals to the keyboard don't say whether it's compatible or not.

USB 2 ports are always compatible with lower versions, so if you connect a USB 1 to USB 2, the speed will be that of USB 1.

So you'r saying there would be no benefit to connecting my keyboardsd to USB2 because it won't make them faster?

Correct. If you connect a USB 1 keyboard to a PC with USB 2, the whole transfer (back and forth) between the two will be at USB 1.

You always get the speed of the lowest USB component.

I'll have to check my manual again. I'd be surprised that the PA1xpro and the RD300sx have no high speed midi capabilities.

By the way, I'm an idiot. I meant the midi connections, not the USB on the keyboard. So if I connect my midi to USB2on the computer, Ill get high speed midi right?

Standard midi is always "slow" and is not an issue for music playback but is an issue if you are using MIDI to transfer data (e.g. sample data) as was the case before USB came along.

Where the USB on the keyboard has been implemented so as to be easily patched into the Midi system (and yes, I own a PSR 3000 where this is the case) then the USB data transfer rate (when moving midi files from PC to keyboard and back again) is noticably slower than normal USB1 speed and I can tell you that using a USB2 machine makes no difference at all!

I found this very frustrating and have therefore gone totally over the top and purchased a 20gb external hard disc which runs at USB2 speed on my PC and appears as a huge USB disc on my PSR3000.

I still wish the "MusicSoft Downloader" provided by Yamaha actually operated in an intuitive drag-and-drop fashion. I could probably put up with the slow speed if this was the case!
