Hello all,

I am looking for a good vocals mic to use with my PA80. I currently own a Shure SM58, I like the quality and the way it sounds. I am looking for something that has an on/off switch (a must!) and something with feedback rejection. SM58 doesn't do a good job of feedback cancellation. I was looking into the Sennheiser e845s or a AKG D880S. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Try an EV hypercardioid, or supercardioid pattern like the N/D767a, 747, or 357 if you're on a budget.
All three will give you more gain, better highs and less feedback than the sm58.
The reason the Shure is feeding back is because it sends a weak signal and needs to be louder.
Those Senheisers are nice too.

I have a couple of the Sennheiser 835S and they served me well. I was hoping to get another one as backup when they discontinued the model but was too slow. I think you can still get the 835 (no "S" = no on/off switch).

Yu can get a cable with an on/off switch built in, so don't buy a mic because it has a switch. Get the mic that SOUNDS the best to you.

I use an AKG C1000s that is excellent and it has a switch in it.

IF,
you can still find them, I highly recommend the Audix OM-5's for LIVE work. They have excellent gain before feedback, supercardioid pattern, but no on/off switch. Never needed them.

Terry,
I have four 1000s's inmy studio, but never tried one on stage. have you ever given one a test shout in a live setting? I'm curious how it would handle close up vocals on stage. I LOVE the way they perform in the studio and for recording band and choir concerts, but that is done from a greater distance. Can they handle a close proximity vocal with a powerful voice?
