One thing that annoys me is that when I change instrument/registration while I'm still pressing a key, the sound that's playing right now changes along. Is there any way/setting that would make the current note continue in the last instrument, until I once again press the key?

I really really doubt it, but I'd love to hear I'm wrong!

The later Yamaha models Tyros. 2100. CVP's do hold onto the present voice until you play a new note. But the bug is it does change the Effect setting immediately from the new voice.
Example:: Piano is being played. Select next voice Strings. The Piano still plays whilst note is held but with Effects from the Strings which is bad.
My 9000Pro works as it should do. The effects for the next selected voice only changes when the voice changes.

Graham, are you sure about the 2100? Cause that's what I have, and the instrument changes right away...

Sorry...No I am not sure, but it is bad design if that's the case. Unfortunately not having Flash Rom Updates on that model Yamaha can't put anything right.
Hopefully other owners of the 2100 will come forward with an explanation for you.

Joe Walters on this link should be able to give you an answer. http://devoted.to/PSR2K

Philip...
I don't know a work around for your problem. But, there is an upside to it. If you are going from, say Reg 1 which is a piano lead to Reg 2 which is a Sax, guitar or other voice, you don't have to wait for the downbeat of the next measure. It kicks in immediately. This is a very useful feature for a lot of songs.

Use the "freeze" button (set to voice only, or whatever else you need... tempo, etc) then after the note is over - access a OTS to set up the new sound from the registration!
