Saving Footswitch into Registrations

From Don Martino

All, you know you can save footswitch assignments into

registrations. But the footswitch lock has to be off.

For example, you can use the same switch for Fill 1, Fill 2 or Fill

3, depending on the song and save that Fill into the registration.

Use can then use another switch and save it as Intro/ending 1 or

Intro/ending 2 as you see fit.

Reset midi play

From Allan

Want your midi files to play the correct instrument each & every time?

Insert a control # 121 with a value of "0" at the first tic of the

clock on every track. This resets the Solton to pick the correct patch each time

you play the file. Avoids egg on the face before an audiance!! I've

learned this one the hard way....

From Dan O’neil

Hello To X1 and X4 owners,
Being able to interchange the parts of a pattern with other parts of a pattern is a cool feature on the X series.....Let me give you an example..I have copied the groove from style 97 ( Newage ) and added the groove to style 12 8 ballad ......Here's how ............
Press pattern edit button Press F4 for copy .
Press F1 and select style 12 now press F6 and find an empty pattern area
Press F10 to execute . ]
Now press F1 and select style 97
Press F3 and change to where it says arrangement A
Press F4 and scroll to to the groove part so that it appears next to F4 . Now look at F8..you can designate any part of the arrangement ( using arrangement A )
Now press F10 to execute .
If you wish to add any other ideas then these steps should get you through to making or recreating styles
Now press F5 for escape ..then the Exit button . Now listen to your new pattern ...The groove syncipates to the tempo orf style 12 ....Try it and I hope it makes sense ......Dan O oneils4@home.com

Cool Vocal Settings

From Dan O’neil

On the X1 and X4 I have been using Setting 02,03 . Try playing a chord with

setting 02.

When using the Uhhh sounds or the program" Gospel". Play a chord and sing a

note !

Suggested songs.... "Surfer Girl " Beach Boys....."Amazing Grace" GOD

........

I use setting 03 mostly when playing styles .....

When using midi files I have been using setting 13 the most.

Creating Custom/factory settings

By Dan O’neil

The X1 has the custom/factory setting.Have you tried to utilize this feature? vs
making registrations? Basically view the parts of the arrangement.Alter the
desired voices for each variation.Press save/ enter button.Press F2 for
styles. Then execute.you can alter I believe all patterns. Once the button
pushing is done just press custom/ factory button and re-enter the style
that you customize.I alter style 06.I isolate chord 1(great guitar srum) and
add the choir sound to the 4th chord.Set the tempo for arround 72 and you
have"Behind Blue Eyes" by the Who.

Voice Sampling in Harmony
Hello X1 and Sd1 users ,
Has anyone sampled their voice in harmony ?
I have done this !
Example .....I hold down a dminor chord .
I set the harmonizer to setting #02 for right hand .
I turn on the sampler option and set the dample for 4 seconds .
I simply sing a phrase into the microphone and capture it in harmony .
After completing an satisfactory wav.file ( sample ) and I name and save it !
I now play a style and change my harmony to #03 for left hand .
Play a style based on the type of phrase you record .
I harmonized in d minor , so I simply trigger the wav. file when I play a d minor chord within my pattern ( style ) .
I am also harmonizing in real time since I am vocalizing live !
It's pretty cool to have multiple harmonys at one time !
My next step for SD1 users is to syncipate my wav's to the style . It's a little tricky ...I will report back when I have it done ? Dano
Ps...... If you have the SD1 you may want to incorporate the vocal drum kits into your pattern . Very cool indeed

Midi Coverter

From Ron Delpina

I had problems changing Karaoke (*.kar) files to Midi (*.mid) files and getting the lyrics to show up on my Ketron X1. The lyrics in most .kar files are entered as text events. For them to show up on the X1 they need to be entered as lyric events. I took my problem to the Karaoke newsgroup and the guys there were very knowledgeable and even more helpful. One of them sent me this program which I have uploaded to our XOOM site. (www.xoom.com. The ID is soltonclub, and the password is ms100.) The MidiCvt program is freeware! You don't have to pay for it. It will change .kar files to mid format 0 files in bulk also changing the text entries to lyric entries so they will work in the X1. I changed 40 files at once and it only took seconds! KORG USERS, it will also change midi format 1 files to midi format 0. Midi 0 files are the ones that start playing immediately in the korg keyboard as opposed to Midi 1 files which have to load into the keyboard entirely before they start to play. Solton MS50 users, if you have midi files that say "song error" when you try to play them, that is usually because they are midi format 1 and have more that 16 tracks. Converting them to midi format 0 will solve this problem.

Second Voice Options

From Dan O’neil

Patterns have to be selected individually . However you can select multiple

patterns and load all at once .In regards to 2nd voices . Here are a few examples of what I have done .#1. for blow sax I added a second sax sound and save it either an octave

lower or higher . This allows the sound to cut through a little more . It

also allows me to use the harmony feature and double up or double down .

You instantly get 4 tones at a time . Big band settings can be had instantly

by combining brass with a trumpet or sax . Try it !

#2. I also programmed the Tooh sound to have the same sound at an octave

lower. It give that vocal sound a little more punch .

Scrolling Lyrics

From Siggi

Hi X1 Users, the next Tipp was new for me.

If you use old Midifiles without Lyric

then load a normal LyricofSong.txt File in the same

Folder. You know, if you play then the Song, comes automaticly the Lyric

in the Display. This is not new.

Ok, the Song run and you must with the Page Button step the Lyric to the

next Page.

But new is:

If you use the newest Update and you step the Lyric how normal, the Song is

ending, then you must push "SAVE",

then come in the Display "Save page scrolling",

then F10 and if you play the next one this Song, then scrolling the Lyric

automatically.

Thanks Re Custom settings I find them useful as basis for single regs because alot of the setting is pre done ie Sounds in arrangement. So that if I wish to reuse custom as another reg I dont have to do the full Job. However I find single Registrations better as they store more settings eg right hand sounds. Also they call up text file with song words or a programme of songs to suit the registration-- very usefull. Re single regs I use only one folder for same and I save it in power on Setup - I then put a letter of alphabet in front of different types Eg C for country and accordingly all my country songs and regs are together in the folder. I allow about 20 regs per letter of alphabet ie 20 country regs --I may only use 4 or 5 but when I add new regs I delete one of unused ones thus allowing the numbering of registrations to stay the same otherwise each time I would add a new registrarion all numbers would change EG my waltzs start at 120 and have been so for about two years. Perhaps someone else has better way but this works for me, untill Iget a better way.Pierce
