Sadly, this will come down to a time issue. We've already sent the image file of the guy with the knife already out to the police, county attorney and to his "attorney" from my security system camera.
The issue will all go away. I just have to be prepared to either write him a check (probably significantly smaller than they're asking for), or spend the same amount or more on legal defense fees. The interesting thing is, the "lawyer" is not trying to get me to drop the criminal complaint against the kid as part of "the deal".
Right now, production schedules for a new project which will take more than 40 hours a week for a year are so tight that I can't spend much time away from work.
I'm realistic, I think. Of the people I have helped, about 1 out of 20 have tried a hussle. I had one lady steal checks and cash a few. One fellow threatened to blackmail me, thinking I was not going to go to the law to report him and his threat to tell tales that were easily proven not to be true. Another stole a company car he was using for work and wrecked it fleeing police in another state. The list goes on...and on.
In spite of that, I get major personal satisfactionm when helping people who need and appreciate it.
I just have to be aware of the possibility of running into this kind of jerk.
And I'm not going to change the way I do things.
