Well, I never knew what the musical terms for this were, but I do this, too. That is, I will play 2 measures of the song to each one measure of the style. I call it "forcing the song into the style". Sometimes it sounds very good. But fill-ins can sound inappropriate, though. I just play for fun at home - no real training, so I don't know if what I do is correct.

PS: Sometimes I take a fast tempo style (say 168) and play one measure of the song to 2 measures of the style. I slow the tempo down to half.
