Without reading any of the comments (thank you, I can imagine what Fox news viewers are like, and regarding this topic most comments are usually marked by lacking knowledge anywhere you look), my stance is that transsexual women don‘t do themselves and other transsexuals a favor being active in professional sports, especially when the physical transition is only a few years ago.
The muscles slowly shrink after testosterone influence on the body has stopped, but there haven‘t been enough studies to show at what stage the muscles have shrunken enough to be comparable to a woman who has never been influenced by testosterone. It surely takes many years.
The body of transsexual women born physically male can be regarded as hormonally developed in the wrong direction, many of those affected strongly suffer due to their bone shape, up to the point of being suicidal.
What is the solution? Transsexual women cannot compete in the male section either, first because the lack of testosterone leads to an extreme disadvantage (see how her scores got worse), but more importantly because it would be outrageously cruel to ask a person who had the genitals changed to a vulva after having been suicidal about one’s own male body for decades to still join the men’s category. Actually there would have to be a special category similarly to those used in the Paralympics. My advice to transsexual women is: Do yourself a favor and do sports for fun. but not professionally.
However, my general observation is that such examples of transsexual sports persons are regularly used to stir rage about transsexual people in general, although very few transsexual women engage in professional sports. BTW, a similar problem exists with intersexual people („hermaphrodites“), who are NOT transsexual, and I‘ve read many ignorant comments about Caster Semenya by people who didn‘t even know that she was born intersex, but stated she was trans. So much for reader/viewer comments…
