The temptation is to press the wheel out on the edge, where you are turning it from. Try to avoid this, and press the wheel in the center if you can.

This is better in two ways... it won’t stress the wheel by applying torque to the edges, and it helps prevent the motion of pressing on the edge from moving the value of what you are editing.

It slows you down a bit, a PITA, but that can also help avoid mistakes..!
