Audacity, which is a great program with a huge number of features, very user friendly, doesn't require an interface to your PC and is free at
https://audacity.en.softonic.com/download . The program was created by Sound Forge, which is one of the programs I purchased many years ago, has many of the same features, and the end results are outstanding.

As far as I know, SOUND Forge, which I used to use and could cost a lot of money and originally put out by a company (Sonic Foundry) in Madison, WI is no way related to Audacity, which is put out by SOURCE Forge a free, open source software.
Sound Forge was later taken over by Sony and presently Magix out of Germany have the rights to it.
