the solution is to maximise the mix as much as possible on the 7000 screen. It is easy to normalise after recording but you tend to waste dynamic range that way. I record with everything maxed as much as possible in the 7k mixer and reduce the monitor volume accordingly. This gives a higher level clean wave file through the usb. I needed to artificially boost eq and do specific sound editing to actually get clipping, but this can be fixed in cool edit or sound forge easily if need be. If you find the mic too bassy try standing away a little and projecting into it more... might give a better balance?
