When I bought my kn1000 back in '92 (I think), since I couldn't find one in RI I purchased it from a store in New London CT - less than 50 miles from my home - I had it shipped and was not charged tax ... I completely forgot about the tax - not sure what I would have done if I thought about it - ... about a year later the State of RI, in conjunction with MA and CT, did an audit of major stores within 100 miles of RI ... I got a bill from the State for the tax on my kn1000 purchase ... a lot of other people got surprise tax bills also
