Music stores in NYC - 12/20/12 10:39 AM

I'll be in NYC next week. I'm looking for a store that has the Korg PA600 , Yamaha PSRS750/950 to try them out. Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks,
Haytham.

Guys....Sam Ash is gone too...They re-located...48th St is no longer a music haven..I read about Sam Ash closing a couple months ago in a trade mag...I think the first of the new year was the target date..

I was IN Sam Ash 48th street, two weeks ago. They were very much open then, and I can't imagine a retail store closing in December for any reason. You read wrong.

... actually UD, many retailers prefer it that way... less overhead, salaries, etc. and they force you to buy online by not offering certain items in stores ... I still prefer stores ... frown

Well, I'm sure Larry, George and Frankie to name a few retailers would love to see more walk in traffic and less underwear shoppers!
(not shoppers OF underwear ... shoppers IN underwear!)
smile
...go ahead, Fran - post your silly underwear shots now

Re: Music stores in NYC - 12/22/12 02:04 PM

One thing that helps kill retail stores is that they must charge sales tax and internet stores do not, as long as the customer is out of state.
On a large ticket item, this can be significant enough for them to lose the sale, despite all the benefits of buying locally.
Even if the retailer matches the on line price, he must add that 8 or so percent.
Of course the BUYER is responsible for paying the sales tax. And I'm certain all of us do that without fail.

When I bought my kn1000 back in '92 (I think), since I couldn't find one in RI I purchased it from a store in New London CT - less than 50 miles from my home - I had it shipped and was not charged tax ... I completely forgot about the tax - not sure what I would have done if I thought about it - ... about a year later the State of RI, in conjunction with MA and CT, did an audit of major stores within 100 miles of RI ... I got a bill from the State for the tax on my kn1000 purchase ... a lot of other people got surprise tax bills also frown

Much as I hate paying taxes, I think the music industry would be better off if it were enforced.
