1) The part was backordered for two weeks (that I can forgive).
2) The cost is $46 plus shipping and handling and tax.
That is price gouging to the extreme!! For a cable that costs them around a buck to manufacture.
I used to work for a car audio company. And we did not rip existing customers off like that. A replacement cable was generally around $6.
I am absolutely disgusted. I hung up the phone without ordering the part and will try using a standard 8 pin din serial cable available on Amazon for $2 (apparently mac computers use this connector). Hopefully they are wired the same way.
I'm sorry, but Yamaha is being very greedy here.
I understand your frustration since I recently tried to replace one of the boards inside the satillite speaker of my MS-TRS01 for my T1. It was shattered when it clumbsely fell to the floor right on the inserted RCA plug. They said the board was not a replaceable part and no schematics are available to see if it could be by-passed. I would have to pay almost $80 for a replacement speaker andwait over seven to ten weeks for it to come over from Japan since it is not a stocked item.
I felt the board and don't feel any components on it. I think I can re-wire it to go between a 1/4" jack and wire directly to the speaker connections and it would be fine. Just would have to use a 1/4" - 1/4" patch cable instead of the supplied one. Of course I still need to confirm this before I would have it done and match the other to the same wiring so as not to have one sounding differently than other. Like I said, I feel absolutely nothing on the board except the RCA soldered onto the board and the speaker leads on the other end; no bumps, no hi-tops no nothing. Wish I could actually see it to confirm.
Needless to say, if I need to have this done, it would cost me about $5.00 in hardware and about an hour of time to fix as aposed to paying $80 for a replacement speaker.
When things are out of stock or manufacturing then we have to improvise.
