All three of those comments could be simple inexperience.

People often expect more isolation from room mikes than is practical, and don't notice just how noisy the background actually IS... You can change the batteries quickly, or with the USB cable plugged into the computer - neither should cause the clock to lose settings... And careful handling avoids breakage.

Anyway, I'll have one soon to confirm or deny those things.
