I fully agree with that.
I use an apex since years but the volume/expression pedal and sustain are allways in the wrong place..

If I go with one keyboard I just use a simple single X stand, adjustable enough to stand behind the keyboard and no problem with the pedals.

The apex is sturdy though. At the moment it is in my homestudio supporting:
1. Kurzweil K2600
2. Korg triton
3. Roland G 800

You might also look at the quicklok (f.i.model Z726L), they have some handy models and are fast in set up too.
