I tried what you suggested about the auto- crash. I think when you turn the autocrash off the fill in becomes smooth all together, which means there is no more delay. Maybe the presence of autocrash slows down this transition. By the way a fill in is no fill in without a crash at the end, it just doesn't sound good. So I think turning off the autocrash is not the ultimate solution.
