The mic I use is an AGK "tripower" D3700 (I think, but its about 2-3 years old and I think I paid about 50-60 pounds sterling so given the price if this model these days I might have got the number wrong and it might be the next model down).

The drummer & I used to use sm48's (we couldn't hear any difference between the sm48 and the sm58 back-to-back) until a friend did a guest vocalist spot using an AKG "tripower" mic. The level coming out of the mic was about twice as "hot" as from the sm's and the sound had oodles of "Presence". As DNJ rightly says, this is a personal choice but in the price range we couldn't find anything sounding as good or "up front" as the AKG's. Therefore we both use the same AKG's and are very happy with the sound.
