OK, It's time for a new mic for the PSR3000.
I think a Shure Shure SM58S. But it's low Z. Will need a impedance matching unit? Are there any high impedance mics that compare to the 58?
Thanks, Smokey

Smokey,

You don't need an impedience matching transformer. All you need is an adapter cable and you're in business. Email Uncle Dave, Donny Pesce, and any of the other 3000 owners who sing and they'll be more than happy to fill you in on the details. I no longer use a handheld, but when I have friends over and they want to sing through the keyboard's processor, I plug in a Sennheiser E-855 and it works just fine. Donny Pesce used the same mic for years with no problems, no matching transformer, just an inexpensive adapter cable.

Good Luck,

Gary

I'm an AKG fan these days; to my ears sounds as good as a '58 but is higher output.

Dont believe the hype on mics.....there are tooo many personal variables......YOUR Voice, Your PA, Your EQ's, Your KB Eq's, I have used the best out there and only with your own personal settings can you make them acceptable to your liking.............try a few before you buy if you can.....good luck!!

I'm using a Senn 845 ... but not with a PSR3000 ... sounds great to me ... but then I could be tone deaf ... ...

I second the Senn 845. I am using it with a Korg Pa1Xpro. I have also used it before with a PSR2000 and it worked great. I previously owned a Shure SM58 and thought that a Senn 845 was an upgrade over that.

The mic I use is an AGK "tripower" D3700 (I think, but its about 2-3 years old and I think I paid about 50-60 pounds sterling so given the price if this model these days I might have got the number wrong and it might be the next model down).

The drummer & I used to use sm48's (we couldn't hear any difference between the sm48 and the sm58 back-to-back) until a friend did a guest vocalist spot using an AKG "tripower" mic. The level coming out of the mic was about twice as "hot" as from the sm's and the sound had oodles of "Presence". As DNJ rightly says, this is a personal choice but in the price range we couldn't find anything sounding as good or "up front" as the AKG's. Therefore we both use the same AKG's and are very happy with the sound.

Thanks for the info. I just picked up a AKG D-880 to try. I'll try a Senn e845 next. Is there a switch box for turning a mike on/off with no pops?
Thanks, Smokey

Smokey,

You can buy a 20-foot mic cable that has a rotary on/off switch on the plug for about $20. They are great, make absolutely no noise whatsoever when turning on or off. Most music stores carry them, and I'm sure you can find them less expensive on line.

Senn 845S is the model with switch. They also make a higher end model 855S, which has an on/off switch also.
