I do not think it is a bug. I believe it is a design issue, intentional, to allow a melody/lead to be played as well as a chord without the melody line affecting/changing the chord. The notes to form a chord must be within a prescribed range of each other to be recognised as a chord. This makes sense to me as necessary to avoid cunfusing the machine when two hands are playing simultaniously.
