I'm not that familiar with Sound Forge, but I know for certain that you can record direct with it and not have to use a microphone. As the previous poster suggested, go to the Windows volume control, make sure that the mute button in the "line in" box in is not checked ON and that the volume slider is not down to the bottom all of the way.

You also need to go into the drop down options menu in the windows volume controller, select options, then "adjust volume for recording " and make sure that the record option is checked in the "line in" box and that the volume slider isn't all the way down ( assuming hopefully your using a line in port and not a mic in port from your kb into your sound card ).

The other possible problem I can see... Sonar would not work properly with my internal soundcard at all... until I added the freeware ASIO4all generic ASIO driver to my system. Even if this isn't the problem, if you are going to be using your internal soundcard ( I don't really recommend it ), you might want to add ASIO4All just to reduce latency and have a better set of drivers for your card.
