First suggestion would be to ditch the MIDI cable. Use audio cables to hookup the audio of the keyboard to the audio inputs of your computer's sound card... MIDI has no place in this. Once you get the audio setup correctly, press Ctrl-R or use the transport controls to start the recording process, not the sampling process.
