I'd place more of the blame on the iMac, which has NO way to store data outside of the computer anyway without an external device. The absence of a floppy drive on newer Macs was purely a cost-cutting measure for Apple, not an indication of what their customers wanted. Apple wants you to buy whatever storage device you need, so here's a USB floppy drive for your Mac under $50:
