Beachbum, if you use the floppy a lot, particularly playing midi files, or play in a smoke-filled bar room or nite club, you have have to clean the drive. More often than not, the heads are the problem and they can be cleaned with an inexpensive floppy disk drive cleaning kit. They're available at most computer stores and sell for about $10.

If this doesn't solve the problem, you may have a defective disk drive. I had to replace one on a PSR-740 last year, but believe me when I tell you there is nothing to it. It took longer to remove all the screws from the keyboard's case then it did to replace the drive. It's nothing more than a standard floppy drive and the replacement drive cost me about $12 at the local computer store.
